Market Book Club

In winter 2018 the market is launching a book club. A bi-weekly gathering of people who like to read and discuss food related books.  It is held Mondays beginning January 15th at 6pm, at Idea Exchange, Hespeler Branch.

Winter 2018.

Our first read will be Eight Flavors: The Untold Story of American Cuisine by Sarah Lohman. A Globe and Mail Best Seller, Eight Flavors looks at young historical gastronomist named Sarah Lohman who discovered that American food is united by eight flavors: black pepper, vanilla, curry powder, chili powder, soy sauce, garlic, MSG, and Sriracha.

In “a unique and surprising view of American history…richly researched, intriguing, and elegantly written” (The Atlantic), Lohman sets out to explore how these influential ingredients made their way to the American table.
